Vehicles eligible for plug-in grant

The UK Government has offered grant funding for electric vehicles since 2011, designed to stimulate demand by covering some of the additional cost compared to petrol or diesel models.

Grants are administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), and the criteria and funding levels have tightened as the market has matured. However, there are still several incentives in place to encourage drivers and fleets to switch.

Plug-in Car Grant

OZEV has recently closed the Plug-in Car Grant to new applications. The oldest of the grant schemes had provided up to £1,500 (or 35% of the purchase costs) for vehicles meeting the following criteria:

  • 0g/km CO2 emissions
  • An electric range of at least 70 miles
  • An RRP of up to £32,000 (including VAT and delivery fees)
