New guidance on driving and riding to work

With the gig economy continuing to grow and more drivers using their own vehicles (the so-called ‘grey fleet’), the Government has issued new guidelines for drivers and riders.

Developed by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Department for Transport (DfT), these guidelines make it clearer who is responsible for complying with the law – and they cover everything from lorries to bicycles.

The guidelines tell employers how to manage journeys and ensure the safety of drivers, riders and their vehicles. They also explain the responsibilities of workers who drive or ride as part of their roles.
