New measures
In his announcement on 22 September, Boris Johnson introduced new measures that affect vehicle companies and fleets. In particular, all employees in branches within the retail sector (which includes vehicle rental firms) must wear masks and the Covid-secure guidelines are now legal obligations. In addition, the £10,000 fine for people who don’t self-isolate will now be applied to businesses who break the rules.
Safe working practices
The Government has also provided updated guidance on safe working practices, with a section on ‘Priority actions to take – what businesses need to do to protect staff and customers’. This includes guidance for those who work in or from vehicles (such as couriers, mobile workers, lorry drivers, on-site transit and so on), which is important to read. (There is also separate guidance for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.)
