Sweeping changes

Over the last 12 months, the council has brought in sweeping changes to its bin collection and grounds maintenance service. This included bringing recycling back in house, changing bin collection rounds, replacing grounds maintenance equipment and introducing a fleet of 67 new service vehicles.

Councillor Mark Nickerson, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services at the council, explains why they made this change.

Our youngest vehicles were seven years old and older vehicles were unreliable and becoming expensive to maintain. A new fleet will decrease our maintenance costs and make our services more reliable – plus having them on contact hire is the most effective solution for costs and risk.

Our refuse trucks aren’t just more efficient, they have Euro 6 engines and extra protection for cyclists, which reduces emissions and makes them safer for other road users.
