Why choose Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles for your fleet?

Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs) are much better for the environment than traditional petrol or diesel ones – by definition, they emit less than 75g of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometre – and they also offer many financial benefits to the organisations that use them. Here are just a few of the ways ULEVs can help your bottom line:

Plug-in vehicle grants

The Government offers a Plug-in Car Grant worth up to £4,500 off the cost of buying a pure electric, plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell car. There’s also a Plug-in Van Grant that will take 20% off the price of an electric van, up to a maximum of £8,000. Details of which vehicles are eligible for the grant, and the size of grant they attract, are available here.

Lower fuel costs

According to the Energy Saving Trust, it costs only around £2 to £4 to charge an electric car for a 100-mile journey. Travelling the same distance by petrol or diesel would cost around £12 to £15. When your vehicles are covering many thousands of miles each year, those savings add up fast.

No Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)

Pure electric and hydrogen cars are exempt from paying VED altogether, saving £140 a year compared to most new petrol or diesel cars. Other ULEVs benefit from a much lower first-year rate (£10 or £25, depending on CO2 emissions) than their traditionally-fuelled counterparts (£105 or more).

No charges to drive in London

ULEVs are also exempt from London’s Congestion Charge, saving their drivers £11.50 every day they drive through it. (Although there is £10 annual fee to register your vehicle for this exemption.) They also avoid the extra £10-a-day T-Charge that pre Euro 4/IV vehicles now have to pay to enter the Congestion Charge zone. Benefits like these will only grow when London becomes an Ultra-Low Emission Zone in April 2019, and when other towns and cities introduce their own Clean Air Zones.

These financial considerations are only some of the reasons to switch to ULEVs. Read our comprehensive guide to find out more of the benefits
